Even when the device is behind the firewall perimeter where organisational web use restrictions are enforced, educational institutions, enterprises, and government agencies take significant risks when they equip students and staff with IT-issued computers that can be used to access the Internet. This is especially true when those connections are used to access sites that provide unsuitable, hazardous, or even illegal information or images. These sites may also be infested with malware, which can be downloaded mistakenly and used to steal personal information.
Security
Schools, in particular, have a responsibility to protect students from harmful and inappropriate web content. In addition, in order to receive eRate subsidies, both schools and libraries must implement a content filtering solution that complies with the Children’s Internet Protection Act.
The SonicWall Content Filtering Client extends the controls to prohibit hazardous and unproductive web content for laptops that are used outside of the firewall perimeter, addressing issues about safety, security, and productivity. The client is automatically deployed and provisioned through a SonicWall firewall. In addition to providing IT managers with the ability to control web-based access for roaming devices, the Content Filtering Client may be configured to automatically switch enforcement to the internal policy whenever the device reconnects to the network firewall. In the policy and reporting engine, there is a robust policy and reporting engine.
Illegal, inappropriate & harmful Web content can enter your network via any user’s browser. Unfiltered content can infect your network with malware, drain productivity, as well as put your organization at risk for regulatory non-compliance, funding withdrawal & even criminal liability. For instance, schools & libraries that receive eRate funding are required by law to install a content filtering solution in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
